Every month I\u00a0will update the lists,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adding as &#8216;Standard&#8217; or &#8216;Advanced&#8217; any indicators which I have\u00a0identified as acceptable when setting my own puzzles<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Removing indicators that I have had cause to question when setting puzzles<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marking as &#8216;Contentious&#8217; indicators I have\u00a0used in a puzzle and which have been\u00a0rejected by a crossword editor (eg &#8216;reacting&#8217; as a reversal indicator, rejected by The Listener)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marking as &#8216;Contentious&#8217; indicators Azed has explicitly stated that he will not accept (eg &#8216;extremely&#8217; to indicate the first and last letters of a word, see the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.andlit.org.uk\/azed\/slip.php?comp_no=2330\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">slip for AZ 2,330<\/a><\/span>)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adding, removing or changing the designation of indicators based on the suggestions of visitors to this site<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adding indicators used in successful Azed clues if I consider them to be acceptable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This month sees (as mentioned above) the <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">inclusion<\/span><\/strong> of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">drinks\/drinking\/drunk<\/span>\u00a0(vt, containment indicator, definition &#8216;to absorb&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">voids\/voiding\/voided<\/span>\u00a0(vt,\u00a0expulsion indicator, definition &#8216;to send out, discharge, emit&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">fires\/firing\/fired<\/span> (vt, expulsion indicator, definition &#8216;to drive out&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">blows\/blowing\/blown<\/span> (vt, expulsion indicator, definition &#8216;to squander&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">blows\/blowing<\/span> (vi, departure indicator, definition &#8216;to depart&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">blues<\/span> (vt, expulsion indicator, definition &#8216;to squander&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">discounts\/discounting\/discounted<\/span> (vt,\u00a0expulsion indicator, definition &#8216;to ignore&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">fails\/failing<\/span>\u00a0(vi,\u00a0departure indicator, definition &#8216;to fall away&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">sets aside\/setting aside\/set aside<\/span>\u00a0(vt,\u00a0expulsion indicator, definition &#8216;to put to one side&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">final<\/span>\u00a0(n, last letter selection\u00a0indicator, definition &#8216;the last of a series (eg of letters in a word)&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">boss<\/span> (vt, [Chambers erroneously shows it as intransitive], anagram indicator, definition = &#8216;to make a mess of&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">provoked<\/span> (vt, anagram indicator, def &#8216;to excite into action&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">lies about\/lying about\/lies around\/lying around<\/span>\u00a0(vi, reversal indicator, def &#8216;to\u00a0be situated\u00a0in the opposite direction&#8217;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following have been <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">removed<\/span><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">kicks\/kicking\/kicked<\/span>\u00a0(vt, expulsion indicator, definition &#8216;to free oneself from (eg a habit)&#8217;) &#8211; I don&#8217;t think this definition is sufficient justification since nothing concrete can be &#8216;kicked&#8217; in this sense.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although they featured in successful Azed clues this month, I have <em>not<\/em> included &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">burst<\/span>&#8216; (first letter indicator),\u00a0or\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8216;replacement of<\/span>&#8216; (anagram indicator),\u00a0\u00a0and won&#8217;t do unless they receive any support from readers, since I can&#8217;t justify\u00a0either of them to myself based on the meanings ascribed by Chambers.
