I periodically update the lists,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adding as &#8216;Standard&#8217; or &#8216;Advanced&#8217; any indicators which I have\u00a0identified as acceptable when setting my own puzzles<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Removing indicators that I have had cause to question when setting puzzles<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marking as &#8216;Contentious&#8217; indicators I have\u00a0used in a puzzle and which have been\u00a0rejected by a crossword editor (eg &#8216;reacting&#8217; as a reversal indicator, rejected by The Listener)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marking as &#8216;Contentious&#8217; indicators Azed has explicitly stated that he will not accept (eg &#8216;extremely&#8217; to indicate the first and last letters of a word, see the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.andlit.org.uk\/azed\/slip.php?comp_no=2330\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">slip for AZ 2,330<\/a><\/span>)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adding, removing or changing the designation of indicators based on the suggestions of visitors to this site<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adding indicators used in successful Azed clues if I consider them to be acceptable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This month sees (as mentioned above) the <strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">inclusion<\/span><\/strong> of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">red<\/span> (imperative, anagram indicator, definition &#8216;to disentangle&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">fitted<\/span> (past participle, anagram indicator, definition &#8216;altered, adjusted&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">puzzled<\/span> (past participle anagram indicator, definition &#8216;entangled&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">perplexed<\/span> (past participle, anagram indicator, definition &#8216;tangled&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">infested<\/span> past participle, anagram indicator, definition &#8216;disturbed&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">rent<\/span> (past participle, anagram indicator, definition &#8216;torn apart with force&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">fickle<\/span> (adj, anagram indicator, definition &#8216;changeable&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">cryptic<\/span> (adj, anagram indicator, definition &#8216;mysteriously obscure&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">declines\/declining\/declined<\/span> (transitive verb, expulsion\/departure indicator, definition &#8216;to avoid&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">stifles\/stifling\/stifled<\/span> (transitive verb, expulsion\/departure indicator, definition &#8216;to suppress&#8217;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">leaderless<\/span> (adj, first letter deletion indicator, definition &#8216;)<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #008000;\">right about<\/span> (adv, reversal indicator, definition &#8216;in the opposite direction&#8217;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The following have been <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">removed<\/span><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">reacts\/reacting<\/span> (intransitive verb, reversal indicator, definition &#8216;to swing back in the opposite direction&#8217;) &#8211; apart perhaps from share prices, it doesn&#8217;t suggest something moving in reverse<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">most<\/span> (adj, last letter deletion indicator &#8211; it does not mean the same things as &#8216;most of&#8217;)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although they featured in successful Azed clues recently, I have <em>not<\/em> included &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">minimized<\/span>&#8216; (first letter selection indicator), &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">entry<\/span>&#8216; (first letter selection indicator), &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">bottom<\/span>&#8216; (last letter selection indicator), &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">craftily<\/span>&#8216; (anagram indicator) and &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">finicky<\/span>&#8216; (anagram indicator), and won&#8217;t do unless they receive any support from readers, since I can&#8217;t justify any of them to myself based on the meanings ascribed by Chambers.
